Merseyside Police and Crime Plan 2017 - 2021

The Merseyside Police and Crime Plan 2017 - 2021 was published in March 2017.

Following consultation in December 2016 / January 2017, the four police and crime priorities of the previous Plan were increased to five for the new Plan by the addition of "Working in partnership to improve road safety". In the consultation, 89% of respondents agreed with making this a priority.

The Plan gives a commitment:
"By 2021 we will:
  • Have stronger, more effective working relationships with road safety partners
  • Influence the use of engineering to drive down the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads
  • Use enforcement strategically to change attitudes, encouraging people to drive in a safer way
  • Work with partners to improve education and awareness surrounding road safety issues."

The Plan can be obtained from http://www.merseysidepcc.info/home/down-to-business/police-and-crime-plan.aspx.

Said of the recent deaths of Clare Killey and a friend of the Killey family: "Thank you for bringing their remembrance to us all. In the face of such tragedy comes the pressing need to truly protect our cyclists and walkers from the errors of others, notably where Liverpool supports a vision of zero deaths [http://www.visionzeromerseyside.org.uk/18.html]." Three years on from the Council's support for VZM, such a tragic loss must make us question the status of work to enforce a safe, sustainable travelling environment.
